Construction is under way on a regional/national training center complex in Pocatello that is the result of a collaborative project between ISU, INL, and CAES that is led by CAES Fellow Dr. Mustafa Mashal. The project, “A Disaster Response Complex for Emergency Responders in Idaho,” is funded through a $1,083,600 award from the Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM). Upon completion, the complex will be an outdoor campus capable of accommodating research, curriculum development, and training/exercises for military and law enforcement personnel. Mashal and his Co-PI, ISU Professor Dr. Bruce Savage, collaborated on the project with Bryon Marsh from INL’s National and Homeland Security directorate – collaboration that lends substantial expertise in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) research. The collaborative aspects of the project date to early 2018, when Mashal met Marsh at the CAES Security Collaborative Research Planning Meeting. Marsh received CAES-INL Collaboration Fund award for the project in FY19.
